Among Others
Neck Pain
We combine Pilates exercise with traditional joint and soft tissue mobilization. Many of the Pilates exercises target the scrpular stabilizors and deep neck flexors. The Pilates method also teaches diaphragmatic breating, which decreases the stress on accessory neck muscles.
Back Pain
Research suggests that strengthening the Transversus Abdominus is key to successful LBP therapy. Pilates emphasizes "neutral spine" alignment and contraction of the Transversus to improve trunk stability. This method improves lover extermity flexibility and spine articulation. It also allows patients to take an active role in their own recovery therapy decreasing the reoccurrence of LBP.
Hips & Pelvis
Traditional physical therapy, joint mobilization and soft tissue mobilizatioin are utilized in conjunction with Pilates therapy. Pilates emphasizes total body conditioning and strengthening of the abdominals with emphasis on the transversus abdominus. Research suggests that the Transversus abdominus must be strengthened before the larger hip and pelvic muscles are targeted.
